“ We were recommended to visit here on our trip to Big Island, Hawaii and it did not disappoint. It’s the perfect food fix if you’re craving authentic Hawaiian food. The owners are kind, friendly and also from Big Island. The red rocks special is great, since it includes a mix of teriyaki chicken, kalbi short ribs, and popcorn chicken. I recommend getting 2 sides of Mac with 1 rice because it complements the meats so well. The serving is so generous that one full size could almost be shared between two people. The buttermilk mochi was subtle in sweetness and delicious. There are shaded picnic tables to sit and eat there as well. ”
“ Came here for the first time celebrating their 3yrs anniversary. I ordered the pork belly plate and the mixed plate (kalbi and fried chicken). The fried chicken was a bit dry, but everything was delicious. Kalbi was flavorful and juicy and the pork belly, although the plate was smaller than my other plate, it was tender and flavorful. I also had their fruit mui (marinated mixed fruits). Prices are pretty decent. Staff are very friendly, lots of shade, tables and chairs to enjoy meals at. Lots of other lunch wagons in the area. Parking is limited and I would recommend using the restroom before you come unless you don’t mind using the portable potty that’s been sitting in the heat all day lol. ”
“ Had take out from this hawaiian food truck and everything tasted great! The katsu was nicely evenly battered, crispy, and tender on the inside. Another highlight was their kalbi; there’s really no words here but that it was banger. ”
“ Must Goooooo if your looking for home comfort food from the South Pacific!!! BBQ mixed plate hit the spot. Beef short ribs: tender, juicy and full of flavor!!! Combination with the teriyaki grilled chicken was delicious!!! Mochi Cake ”
“ I just had this for the first time and Inmust say 10/10 across the board! Amazing family biz. I had the Teriyaki Chicken, combo plate and one of their special chickens that was only around for a week. I highly recommend them keeping this one. All I know is that It starts with an O and you have to have it! ”
“ We've only tried the chicken teriyaki, but it was perfect. A large amount of food and sides were solid. Will come back to try everything else. ”
“ The Hawaiian food at Shoyu sugar is the best in Austin. The loco moco is my favorite and a monthly special. I also think they have the best chicken katsu and some of the best kalbi in Austin. I recommend the red rocks plate when it’s available. The food here is MEAN! and the owners are so nice! And you can’t beat those prices. They also do 1/2 portions of food! ”
“ Amazing Hawaiian-style BBQ food truck in NW Austin, you really can't go wrong with anything on their menu. I enjoyed the Korean fried chicken, kalbi, teriyaki chicken, poke nachos, chicken katsu. Everything was so delicious with great blend of Hawaiian and BBQ flavors with the perfect char on the meats. The poke was fresh, I only wish I could have received a bit more fish. They have parking available on site and some outdoor seating as well. They are a family-owned small business - I cannot recommend them enough! They also have daily specials (see their website). ”
